$6.99

Solid British Columbia hematite carved ring. Approximately 4mm wide band.

Description

Solid British Columbia hematite carved ring. Approximately 4mm wide band.

Hematite derives it’s name from the Greek word meaning ‘Blood’. This is because when cut, the high level of iron in the stone causes the saw coolant to turn blood red in colour. Shiny Hematite crystals are sometimes called ‘Specularite’ (from Latin for ‘mirror’) and were used as mirrors in ancient times. The stone is rated 6 on the Mohs harness scale, which makes it excellent for quality, high luster jewellery and small carvings. Hematite occurrences are found in parts of the Yukon, British Columbia, Labrador, Quebec and Brazil. Ferrungous quartz also known as red hematoid quartz or strawberry quartz contains inclusions of hematite or limonite which colour the crystal light red, brown or yellow. Hematoid Quartz is said to contain both the amplification properties of Quartz with the balance and stability of Hematite. It is a highly energetic piece that is thought to assist in removing negativity and transforming energies into a positive and pure form.
