Description
Carved hematite donut pendant paired with silver plated horse charm inlaid with abalone. 28″ satin rayon rattail cord can be adjusted in length. Approximate pendant size 4.5 x 3 cm (1.8 x 1.18″).
As these are made from natural stones, colours and patterns on stones will vary and not be exactly as shown.
Hematite derives it’s name from the Greek word meaning ‘Blood’. This is because when cut, the high level of iron in the stone causes the saw coolant to turn blood red in colour. Shiny Hematite crystals are sometimes called ‘Specularite’ (from Latin for ‘mirror’) and were used as mirrors in ancient times. The stone is rated 6 on the Mohs harness scale, which makes it excellent for quality, high luster jewellery and small carvings.
Hematite occurrences are found in parts of the Yukon, British Columbia, Labrador, Quebec and Brazil.
