Unakite is an altered granite with a marbled appearance. It is composed of pink orthoclase feldspar, green epidote and colourless to creamy quartz. It was first discovered in the Unakas mountains of western North Carolina/eastern Tennessee (hence its name). However, it can also be found on the beaches of Lake Superior, where it was originally dragged by glaciers.
As a healing stone, the colours are associated with healing the heart. Unakite is said to lift spirits – this is the gemstone to help one see the beauty in life. It is also used to uncover deception.
