Blue goldstone is manmade glass coloured blue by cobalt with silvery flecks suspended in it. The invention of the original goldstone occurred by accident in seventeenth-century Venice by the Miotti family using copper rather than cobalt. The glass is made in a reducing furnace with cobalt added, it then crystallizes.
As a healing stone, it is prized for learning, communication and uplifting the spirit. The metaphysical properties of cobalt are said to cloak and transform a traveler. It is said to be a powerful, radiant and psychically active element.
